An energetic young boy saw a premature end to his life after a usual bout of “dangerous play” led to his untimely death.
Adetunji Adekoya, 6, fell from the top floor of a 2-storey building located at Lamgbasa in the Eti -Osa Local Government Area of Lagos yesterday.
The child was said to be playing with his brothers when he slipped and fell to his death on the ground below after hitting his head on a stone.
Leadership reports:
His parents were said to have gone out when the incident occurred.
A neighbour, Adegbenro Adeleye told LEADERSHIP that the father of the deceased flogged him last month when he saw him in such a dangerous play.
Adegbenro said immediately the parents heard of the incident, they drove to the residence and wept uncontrollably as they saw their first child in a pool of his blood, dead.
He said the family hurriedly took the corpse away and buried it.
“It is painful. The father had cautioned the boy not to engage in such dangerous play. He flogged him hoping that he would repent but to no avail. The boy was a very fine boy and brilliant. I am his father’s friend,” he said.
Adegbenro said residents of the area wept profusely as they gathered to catch a glimpse of the dead boy.
The father of the deceased child, a native of Ondo State, told LEADERSHIP that he had warned and even flogged the boy repeatedly for playing around the balcony but he didn’t heed his warning.
He regretted going out yesterday, saying he already had the premonition that something was about to happen but he didn’t envisage that it had anything to do with his son.
