North Korea arrests American student for 'hostile act,' state media says

An American student from a university in Virginia has been arrested in North Korea, according to state media.

The student, who reportedly entered North Korea on a tourist visit, is accused of carrying out a hostile act against the DPRK, KCNA said, referring to the acronym for the Democratic People' Republic of North Korea.

"The student entered the North Korea for the purpose of bringing down the foundation of its single-minded unity at the tacit connivance of the U.S. government," the report said.

CNN is working to confirm the student's identity.
